Africa
1. I really find it amazing how Nick Brandt beautifully captures these creatures in their settings. I also love the fact how he really connects with Africa and its plains. His photography and passion to Africa and its animals truly inspires me to feel that passionate to a place or subject.
3. This photo is definitely my favorite because it truly captures his passion in a beautiful image. It's in focus, has a beautiful background, and really shows the lions beauty as well.
4. It's evident that the rule of thirds and framing was incorporated in this picture. The photo is balanced very well and the background and subject are perfectly in the frame.
5. Nick uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses. He doesn't use telephoto lenses because he believes in actually being close to the animal in order to capture their spirit.
6. He takes these photos in order to capture the animals in their state of being. He feels as if animals and humans should be treated as equals, and wants to demonstrate through every photo he takes.
7. His hope is to show people how these animals can be at risk or cease to exist and so we should treat them with love and respect.
8. "There is also something deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains of Africa—those vast, green rolling plains punctuated by graphically perfect acacia trees under the huge skies."
